I used POR 15 on the rear axle of my car, because I did not want to
sandblast it. I coated the axle with POR15, then when it was tacky, I
sprayed it with black enamel. It still looks pretty good. Nothing has
peeled off, and it was pretty rusty.
In a little while I may be able to report a more extensive experiment. My
daughter has let the surface rust get out of hand on her truck--it had big
scaly patches all over the body (Californians will not be able to picture
this). I felt something should be done, but it looked as if it would take
hours and a desert of sand to do the right thing and sandblast all the
rust. So we wire brushed the rust thoroughly, put two thin coats of por15
on the rust, then coated the patches with acrylic enamel. Give me a year,
and I'll know how it works.
