Hello fellow piners,
I took last week off and was blessed with a couple of days in the low 60's
so I was able to work on my series I restoration project. I decided to
start cleaning the engine and got a little carried away.....I pulled the
head and athe rods then tried to turn the engine by hand....still no go.
Well its rebuild city now! After I scraped what seemed like 1/2" of
carbon off the pistons I noticed they are marked +.040, from all the
catalogs I have that seems to be the largest piston available for these
engines. So what do I do, can I sleeve the cylinders and use a smaller
piston? BTW the rods and lifters looked real good! the valves were/are
covered with more carbon then the pistons, any recommendations on the valve
job are also welcomed.
One other item has me very confused, I can't seem to locate the brake servo
on this series I, anyone know where it should be? When I follow the brake
line from the master cylinderit leads to a strange 4 "port" conector, 2 lines
go to brakes one has an electrical type fitting (looks like a spade much
like what you would find on a sending unit), any ideas what this is....can't
find anything like it in the shop manual.
And Paul....this is an early series I with no paint color code stamped on
the car.....believe me this is a Glen Green (but not for long!!).
Thanks in advance for any hint/tips/tricks.
