Introduction

I've enjoyed reading the other introductions to date, I've been too busy in
the past to write mine, but today I had the day off and some spare time.

My name is Terry Edlund, my wife Christine and I call San Diego home. We
moved to San Diego in 1987 when I had a job offer out of college (Michigan
State) to work for General Dynamics. After working for 7+ years as an
Industrial / Manufacturing / Production Engineer on various aerospace
programs (tomahawk cruise missile, advanced cruise missile and MD-11 fuselage
sections) I was laid off in August of 1994 when Hughes bought my portion of
General Dynamics. The choices were move to Tucson, AZ or eventually be laid
off. After a weekend trip to Tucson (in July) we decided it would be better
to be unemployed in San Diego than employed in Tucson.

Seeing the writing on the wall and looking for a new challenge, I enrolled in
law school in 1992 (evenings) and graduated last May. I took (and passed :-)
) the California bar exam in July. I currently work for the Office of the
District Attorney. Christine is a letter carrier with US Postal Service.

Now the car stuff. First off, a confession, I'm not a Sunbeam owner. The
Series V Alpine (B395009965) is Christine's. She bought the car in 1987 a
few months after we moved to San Diego (got to have a convertible in So. CA).
Being Mr. Practical, I wanted her to get a "common" car such as a MG or Fiat.
As we were driving around one day, she saw a red fin tail for sale and "had
to have one". After looking at several Sunbeams she purchased a Series V.

We bought the car from the second owner in original shape. He said the car
was bought new in San Diego (has CA black plates). Faded BRG paint, red soft
top rear window, cracked dash pad and upholstery, etc, but fine mechanically.
The car is now maroon in color with new ... (the list is too long to mention
here).

Christine drives the car, I fix the car. What I can't fix gets taken to
Smitty's. Having Smitty in town makes working on the car a lot easier, I've
driven over to his shop many times to see what I have taken apart is
"supposed" to look like when its back together again.

We are members of our local Sunbeam club and enjoy driving the car in club
functions, especially our biannual lobster run to Mexico.

Our other vehicles are a Toyota Celica GTS and a Vespa P200 (I drive the
Vespa to work almost every day! Oh yeh, the Vespa is Christine's also).

Take care,

Terry Edlund
