About the soft tops: I've gotten one about ten years ago from J.C.
Whitney and one recently (2 yrs ago) from sunbeam specialties (both
vinyl, different cars). With regards to JC. Whitney, I was impressed
but do remember a couple of times at the SF/Bay bridge toll plaza on a
rainy day when some big car would drive through a puddle and drench me
even though the top and window was up. On my current car with the top
from SS, I have had no such experience, but no real seal against wet
weather.
After 2 years (of venice beach sea salt, LA smog, and Jersey winters)
the SS top is still tight and looks good.
I say: go with Sunbeam Specialties, I am of the impression that we need
them more than we need VB (and they need us, too). With that mentality,
I always go to Rick first. I view ownership of an alpine as sort of a
partnership relationship with sunbeam specialties.
BTW, both JC Whitney and SS version had some instructions on
installation - the rest you could figure out with limited common sense.
The JC whitney top came with the purchase of a 65 basketcase back in
'85.
