Overdrive was an option on manual trans cars only.
Automatics have direct drive only.

The overdrive is a second transmision that is bolted to the tail of the
first.
It uses a planetary gear system "like an automatic", and can be shifted
without the clutch.

The Laycock overdrive, is considered by many to be a fine transmision,
but if you neglect it, it will make you pay!.

All synch transmisions have reverse to the lower right "beside 4th".
Non synch transmisions have reverse to the lower left "beside 2nd".

Most people prefer the all-synch trans because it is easier to get into
first gear.
Also non-synch transmisions are quite a bit louder "whiney" when driven
in first gear due to the straight cut gear used in 1st "just like
reverse on the all synch".
All-synch transmisions are a tad easier to find, and more new parts are
available.
Both transmisions are very durable.
