Overdrive transmission

I've recently picked up a gear box and overdrive from a Sunbeam Rapier
Fast back. Although the ratios and overdrive are right for my Series V.
The spigot shaft has fine grooves on it rather than the coarser groves
of the Alpine. Does any one know if it is possible to switch spigot
shafts? Karl
