Hi,
I downloaded the image of the ad for the Alpine with the billy cart and the
Alpine and had it made into a print for a t-shirt. It looks pretty cool and
it was only $au9 plus the cost of a t-shirt.
Also, I spoke to a bloke from melbourne uni who's family had many isuzu
belletts he says that the engine continued to be developed until it got to
a 2-litre OHC alloy head engine with five-speed gearbox without the engine
mounts ever changing. I can't translate these names for you in other parts
of the world but this engine went into the isuzus which were badged as
Holden Rodeo pick-ups. Interestingly the split between isuzu and rootes
occured before rootes made the engine/gearbox length changes. So the
set-up mentioned above may go straight into the Alpine.
The same bloke also says that the Gemini engine from the seventies and
early eighties also goes straight in. I think the basic version for the
gemini was a push-rod 1.6 litre, but I do know that there was a five-speed.
I'll continue to look into it.
Anthony.
