Well, the only experience I personally have had with a Mazda powered
Alpine, was in Tiger Tom's 69 fastback GT. Several years back, I drove it
down to the United in Huntsville, Alabama for him, as he was driving his
truck with trailer full of goodies for you and me to buy!
That car was FAST! At one point, I got separated from Tom by traffic,
and I had no idea of the local roads to use once we hit Huntsville. I figured
I better catch up right quick. In no time, I was cruising at over 100mph, and
the car wasn't even breathing hard. I'm sure it would have gone to 120 or
more!
Unfortunately, the car was damaged at a toll booth on the PA
turnpike - some idiot in a beat up Volare with no brakes rear-ended it as the
Alpine was entering the toll booth. Nobody hurt, but serious sheet metal
damage to the Alpine. I believe Tom sold it shortly thereafter, and I
personally haven't heard of it since. I hope it's still around - it really is
a WONDERFUL car to drive!
