[capri-list] Capri engine ID codes

Here is some information I received during my ongoing quest to
identify my V6 engine. Mine has the UX code, so it must be a 2600cc.

For all you engineers out there, what is the conversion factor to
     convert cc's to cu's?

Fellow Capri fans,

Yesterday a question arose regarding Capri engine identification. All
Capris have an engine code stamped in the "Motor/Engine" area on the ID
plate under the hood, and also on the engine block. Here is a list of
all the Capri engine codes I know:

     Nominal Where First Last
Code Displ. Type Cyl Name C.R. Used Year Year Notes
     (cc)

HYF 3000 V 6 Essex ? Europe ? ? Capri II
L1 1600 I 4 Kent 8.0 USA 1970 1971 28mm carburetor?
L4 1600 I 4 Kent 7.5 USA 1971 1972 25mm carburetor?
NA 2000 I 4 SOHC 8.2 USA 1972 1974
NB 2000 I 4 SOHC 9.0 USA 1971 1971
NE 2000 I 4 SOHC ? Europe ? ?
PX 2800 V 6 Cologne 8.2 USA 1976 1977 Possibly 1974 also
UX 2600 V 6 Cologne 8.2 USA 1972 1973
YA 2300 I 4 Lima 9.0 USA 1976 1977

I'd like to build up a complete list, so if you have any additions or
corrections please pass them along.

This is a 2600cc low compression (8.2:1) engine. The "UX" is the engine
identification, U for 2600 and X for low compression. "ML" is a date code,
where M is 1972 and L is the month (I can't tell which without consulting a
reference book that is at home). The 5 digits are simply the last 5 digits
of the donor car's Vehicle Identification Number.

Be seeing you,
