Ramon - and Rich - and Gary - (and Robert P. - and - Mr. X)(and The Mole):

I realize I am a little late with this response - but better late than never!

Rich:

I know you were being facetious - but - There are no free lunches (except when you get 'conned').

At 02:58 01/25/97 -0800, you wrote:

Ramon:

It would not have helped if you had charged those prices - but if you had negotiated reasonable prices for the articles - and been able to collect them - it would have been an orderly market - we might all still be in 'business'.

As it was - I had acquired an 'inventory' of Alpine parts, including an operational car and a non-operational car plus a mess of parts for a 'reasonable' fee. It was my intention to run a 'hobby' business - it went well for a while - people bought gauges, starters, generators, chrome bits, etc. for nominal money. The operational car was sold for a reasonable fee (Under two grand as I recall) and other odds and ends moved for mostly single (maybe some double) digit $ figures.

But then the villains started to show up. One took away a very clean looking overdrive unit (not tested by me) to 'evaluate' it - never saw it again!

Another - (after I had left the premises) took the whole rear axle of the 'parts car' and left it sitting on concrete blocks on the frames - it 'cost' me to have a tow truck come to take it away - he could not deal with a wheel'less car and sent another operator who had the flat-bed kind of tow-truck who could 'drag' it up on the flat-bed and take it away.

The one who took away the rear axle also took sundry other parts - starter, generator and who knows what else - my (ex) wife was not equipped to deal with these subtle differences - and I was not there to monitor the transactions.

Can't remember which race it was that started out with "Gentlemen - start your engines" - was it Monte Carlo or Le Mans? or?

Needless to say I have not seen 'penny' one for these items - nor have I seen the 'gentlemen' - will I be pilloried for saying there was some honour in the British Empire? - which does not seem to have transferred to SOME of our North American cousins.

But as in every Special Interest Group there are the bad apples --- (not including 'The Mole' who towed away my Black Beauty with its blown lower bearing for a paltry $200 - but at least with my agreement and his $200 cash in my pocket - that was fair and honest gentlemanly dealing)

So, Robert P of Victoria and Mr. X of Vancouver Island - where are my rear axle and other parts - and my overdrive unit - are you just going to continue to STEAL Them - or will you step forward and do the gentlemanly thing?

Barrie Henderson
