The main shaft is different on a the OD transmisions.
Specifically, the shaft is of a different length, and has a keyed
eccentric that
runs the OD oil pump.
Early vs late transmisions have different trans to OD adapters, but the
OD units themselves are interchangable between all years (59 to 68)
Some models have a pressure balance tube (desireable).
If you have access to a SIII, get the trans as well.
Short of a noise unsynchronized first, there is nothing bad about the
early transmitions.
SV OD transmisions are quite rare in the U.S..
