After my $1200 dollar tune and correct the gearbox leak. Yesterday I
found the gearbox leaking again and whats worse the overdrive was
spontaneously disengaging. Turns out they put the wrong oil in. They
kept insisting that 20W-80W was correct- in the end I gave up and just
changed the oil myself to 20W-40W and its now fine.
I've also found the gearbox leak but am not sure if it's fixable. It
appears that the bell housing only partially covers where one of the
layshafts comes out the front of the gearbox. This means that oil seeps
from this area. From looking at a later (Arrow Series) gearbox I can see
that the base of the bell housing normally covers this totally.(as I
assume my Original Gearbox/Bellhousing did) What must have happened is
that someone has fitted a later gearbox in my car but retained my Series
V bell housing. I knew that Arrow Series Gearboxes had a longer bell
housing (and input shaft) but it looks like the front of the boxes are
different as well( in that the base of the bell housings are not
interchangable). Has any one run across this problem-Has any one got a
solution-How easy would it be to modify the bell housing base so it
covers more of the front gearbox.Karl
