Following up on the recent advice to get it running, then work on it while
enjoying it, I decided to get the old Alpine back on the road while gasoline
is still available. So here's the first of many questions to this esteemed
group as I muddle thru. . .
We started with our box of "small parts" and found that the starter that came
off the car a "few" years ago doesn't match up with the sketches in the
workshop manual or with the part numbers in the Vic Brit catalog. The
starter on my bench is Lucas model #25149D, VicBrit lists 3 numbers: 25022,
25079 and 25085 and sells a one size fits all replacement. The manual shows
a covered "window" for access to the brushes, which I vaguely remember from
my first Alpine back in the early 70's. The one I have now has no window.
Anybody recognize the number I have? I don't recall any problems turning
the engine over lo those many years ago when this LBC last moved under its
own power, so this will be one part that goes right back on once its cleaned
up & verified operational.
