Early Alpine Sway Bars (Finally)

Alpiners (early ones especially).

Since many of the current members were not on the list when
this topic began, I will once again speak of the fabled
early sway bar.

VB sells sway bars from ADDCO, and claims that all alpines
use one application, and Tigers use another.
This is not correct, as early alpines use a different front
crossmember and lower control arms, and all series 4,5 and
tigers should use the same bar. Because no functional bar
was available, several of the lists memebers have gotten
together, and gotten the ball rolling regarding the manufacture
the heavy duty sway bar for the early alpine (series 1 to 3).

For those of you that are not aware, Rootes sold a performance
tuning package during the early sixties that included a 7/8 inch
sway bar. The bar that will be offered should be identical to
that of the original, and will double (by calculation) the roll
stiffness relative to stock.

The prototype was made in late November, and tested for fit
by William Lewis, and Myself.

At long last, the early sway bar project appears to be comming
to a close. Rick at Sunbeam Specialties informed me today
that the bars SHOULD be DONE in about a week.

The project was taken on by the manufacturer that makes the
bars that Sunbeam Specialties sells. The owner decided that
he did not want to deal with anybody but Sunbeam Specialties
on the buisiness aspect of this, so the bar will actually be bought
through them.

I am not too certain how many will be made, but Rick has told me
that since the run will coincide with a run of Tiger bars, that the
price should be about the same.

     Gary, I have a Mark 1 and it looks like one could feed a hooked tool
     (like a glass seating tool, hooked probe, or even a bent coat hangar)
     through the hole where the cable went through, hook the latch and pull
     it back to release the it. I hope I've understtod the problem

Help!!!
     
My friend's bonnet release cable broke right where it attaches to the
bonnet latch assembly. Does anyone have any novel suggestions on how
to get the bonnet open without making holes in sheetmetal, destroying a nice
paint job or employing a nuclear device? No wise guy answers please.
This is serious business!
