The workshop manual discriped the propper method.
I bought some 1/2 threaded fine steel rod at a hardware store,
some washers and nuts.
You will need to make the appropriate washer for your lower control
arms from steel or almuminum, but the spring must be compressed
with the lower controll arm (disconnected from crossmember).
The rod is installed in the shock tower, through the spring and
protrudes through the lower control arm.
Use oil on the rod to reduce friction.
The spring is compressed by tightening the nuts on the threaded rod,
till the lower control arm can be installed to the xmember.
The job is not too difficult, and normally takes
4 beverages (no beers here).
This is REALLY dangerous work, so block the car very well, and be
super carefull.
There is a lot of energy stored in those compressed springs.
