The Series III had the switch built into the heater control valve. It
operates with a push/pull motion. The device however isn't very
reliable and many owners install a switch to the left of the wiper
     switch to operate the fan.

     Hope this helps,

Hi from Scotland.
Could somebody possibly answer this question: should there be an electrical
switch for the heater fan built in to the heater control operating lever,
or should there be a separate switch on the dash? Everthing's in bits just
now, and there's no labels on repainted dash.

p.s. I hope to have a wee web site up in about a month with photos of
Alpine restoration in progress for your entertainment and delight.
