Floor jack and stands

I dropped my car off of the floor jack and with that it dawned on me that
if I was under there yanking on a rusty bolt, I could yank the car right
off of the jack stands and squish myself. The jack stands say on the box
not to rely on them if your under the car. Is that just legal speak or
should I be doing something else to protect myself.
