Alice & Allen,
Strangely enough, last night I was reading the same article and wanted to
get more information on it as I am presently rebuilding an engine for my
'53 saloon and replacing the seals on the gearbox. I believe information on
these shifters can be obtained from Jim Mundell (see page 1 of that issue
of STARDUST) in his Technical Tips publications.
In 1964 I converted my '54 drophead coupe to a floor shift by using the
top cover and shifting lever from a Commer Cob (or Hillman Husky). It bolts
right onto the casing (the casing must be rotated 90 degrees so the cover
is on top) and it has made life a lot easier driving this car since the
conversion. There is a small problem with the speedometer cable drive as it
now faces up as well. I just used a longer cable which now comes up through
the floor (some would or could not live with this).
Regards,
Bob
