Sorry to be late, someone has surely said this before, but:
I have heard many persons to heal worn carb spindels with O-rings. Rings
are slipped onto the axle and it seals (or limits) air leakage to the inlet
manifold. Of course this is only a temporary solution, but you can use it
two months and cure/rebuild carbs during winter. We in Finland have winter
enough!
