Had a wierd experience recently. Driving down the road in my SV, when
the car suddenly started decelerating. Just as if I had removed my foot
from the pedal. No throttle responce. I had to use the choke to get
home, which by the way is a great cruse control..if you like 45mph.
When I got home, I expected some broken linkage. But guess what. I had
recently replaced the breathers, and apparently did not get the bolts
tight enough. Both breathers, and the bracket on the forward carb had
fallen off to the right. I know I tightened the bolts when I installed
the breaters. Should I try some thread lock, lock washers, or what?

I had a similar situation on my Mk V. I had just resurected the car from
the winter, and was driving on the highway. All of a sudden, the engine had
no thottle response, and went down to idle. I coasted to a stop, and found
my whole throttle linkage plate and air cleaner hanging by a bolt thread.
The vibrations in the engine rattled the possibly lose bolts out. After
marvling at the british engineering, I realized I didn't pack any tools in
the trunk. I could only finger tighten the bolts, so I would have to pull
over every five miles to re-attach the linkage. Once I got home and
tightened the bolts with a wrench, they have yet to back out. The bolts do
have flat brass washers, but I'm not sure if they are correct.
