Subject: 1963 Series III GT OD B9205539
Can anyone give me more information on my Subj: It was purchased new by
George Tawata of Redondo Beach, Ca. I am the second owner. George put
71,000 miles on her and pulled the engine out in 1991 and the car sat in his
garage until Dec 96 when I purchased it. It is totally original, even had
the tool kit and original spare in the trunk. The engine had a solex 2bbl and
a single downtube cast exaust, which I believe was correct for this serial
number. The hood has a sound deadner pad. The car had a dealer installed (?)
radio under the dash w/ a cardboard speaker box below
The headlight rings had a moulded rubber ring between the ring and the
light to keep dirt and water out . Smitty says they may of come off an
earlier car as he has seen some of these on early cars. The other unique
feature I found was that attached to the SAL Plate is a black plastic
engraved id tag w/ white characters that says "SAS-3-64". I believe it
may have been some kind of DMV requirement for cars sold out of the model
year since the Title serial number is SAS364B9205539. The license plate is
"OMF 919" and the registration says 64 ROOTS. The SAL Number is 253964, and
the id tag says OD LRO .'
How rare is this car ? How many GT OD's were produced and how many
were shipped to the United States? Any help would be greatly appreciated as
I am planning to do a history book on this car.
Thanks,
Bob Willis
