Buying a soft-top

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me roughly how much a soft-top (material only, no bows)
weighs? I may be getting one brought back as a present from the UK.

What is the difference between the materials that are advertised (PVC,
vynide, double duck??). Are there any types to avoid?

I'm on a limited budget, the car ain't concourse, and I just want
something neat, practical, and suitable for occasional use. My car's a
series 3 if that matters.

Berkshire Sunbeam Alpine Center has well-priced tops, has anyone bought
one from them?
