Smog Tune-up

Thanks for all your input on points and timing, very informative.

After checking the timing I found it set to 15-20 BTDC and the car ran
with some power then I set it back to 10 BTDC as specified and the car
seems to have lost some pick-up. I also noticed that while setting the
timing, the engine seemed to mis-fire and run poorly at 10 degrees
initial setting. The distributer is re-built and has no wobble so the
timing is steady (does not wander). I did the check max advance by
reving the engine to 2500+ RPM and the timing appeared to be somewhere
around 35 BTDC which matches the information I got from the list.

After farting around with it for a while I decided to install the
Allison Electronic Ignition I bought a few years ago. Also put new EI
wires and have a high output coil to put in tomorrow. Boy, what a
difference! Runs a lot smoother and idles great at around 800 RPM. One
question though, should I readjust the carb mixture again now that I
have changed the ignition?

Getting closer to smogging!
