Here in race land, we're not too picky over the method, and manner for
which the horsepower is tested.
All that really counts is what we measure at the rear wheels.
Every thing else is just hear-say.
F-production has certainly changed since the days that Alpines
were considered competative.
Today, in vintage sports car racing, the Alpine has performance, that
could be considered laughable.
With MG midgets, and bug eyed sprites, and even austin mini's
making 130 BHP at the rear wheels "or fronts on the mini",
thier small bore motors screaming at 10000 RPM, make short
order of the heavier, and lower powered Alpine.
Technology has advanced my friends, and left the lower production #
alpine back with its 60s technology. Cars like the old British Leyland
ones aformentioned have such high production numbers, that the
cheater parts were not only available, but down right cheap at that.
In order to dice with say the top 10 cars if F-P, I would estimate
that you will need to produce in the nieghborhood of 130 BHP at
the rear wheels, to keep up with the pack, then, maybe get them
in the turns.
Its all hearsay, but this means that you need to make a no BS
155 BHP at the crank.
