I think that Rootes learned a lesson here, due to the fact that
the SIV went back to the old 4.22 OD rear.

I have driven a 3.89 OD car, and it deffinately required more than
usual peddle for a given speed.
Dick T. is right here, this will kill fuel economy, and put the motor
to an early grave.

The whole reason why you want an OD is to get that better
compromise between the zippier accelration of the 4.22 and
the cruising comfort of the psuedo 3.37 final.

Consider 195 70 14 tyres [Poor mans Overdrive].
Pretty tall, but will yield a 10% taller ratio than will 175 70 13s.

The correlates to the equivilent a 3.50 rear end ratio, and would
allow you to cruise at a comfortable 3000 RPM at 60 MPH.
