At this risk of starting this discussion again ! My reading is that
there is no real problem using the 3:89 rear end as long as you use the
O/D for higher speed / RPM use only. There is a loss of power.
I can tell you that I will never switch back to a 4.22 from a 3.89. But,
DickS is right - I can't get going fast enough on my island to engage
O/D anyway but I sure can on the I5 and that is important to me . Hey,
but O/D is available in third also !!!.... But, I don't want to get into
that one!
