There is an o-ring around each gauge that serves to dampen
out any vibration on the gauges, but it must be complete, and
present to be functional.
There is a "U" shaped clamp that is screwed on to the
rear od all the gauges, which when tightened,up with
the round nuts, pulls the gauges against the o-rings and facia.
The round nuts also serve to allow a daisy chain of grounding
terminals, so if the nuts are loose, you may experience gauge
errors, and gauge lighting problems.
