I am having the same problem too. When I switched to the overdrive the
cable was not long enough and the radius on the cable was too small so
the inner cable fouled the outer. Also oil was migrating up the cable
and into the speedo which I believe was dragging the mechanism
eventually to the point where it quit reading anything. After I took the
speedo apart and flushed it out it was marginally better- it now has 20
mph mood swings!
I cleaned the cable and regreased it and within a week or so the oil was
dripping on my feet again.
My feeling is that you will have to check there is no oil getting into
the speedo - ensure the cable does not have small radius bends in it and
install a new oil seal in the speedo housing at the gearbox.
I understand Rick at SS has these seals.
