Hi there,
I just turned into be the lucky owner of an alpine V, convertible 67 mod,
imported from the sunny California to the colder region of Terrus - Norway.
The car is a likely object for restoration an a huge effort is required in
order to return to original and good shape.
The shell and body of the car is in good condition - no major rust - no
welding required, however repaint is required. The softtop is new and the
carpets as well. The brakes need to be restored, the engine, gearbox and
transmission as well. To fix this will be the long term target.
I've order a replacement waterpump, new rear brake cylinders, repair kit
for the brake servo, new break shoes and repair kit for the callipers.
Hopefully this will make the car run safely (and - stopping!)
Advises will be appreciated! Type of brake fluid, general hints and tips on
these subjects will be of great help.
Further, the rubber surrounding the windshield and the shield to scuttle
rubber needs to be replaced, as they are completely dried and worn out.
This concerns in general most of the rubber as they are old and worn out.
Interiorwise, the seats are in terrible condition. Anybody who can tell a
place where these can be fixed (only the steel frames are worth keeping) or
where I can order the necessary things and assemble things myself, for a
cheap money? The cost of this project is rising above expected limits!
Further, switches, cables etc. are also dried out and should all be
replaced.
OK - hoping someone out there will give me some good ideas on further
progress with my new baby.
Otherwise, about my self: Male, 34, mech. engineer, live in Oslo/Norway
(remember the Olympic Games in Lillehammer-94!) have also an old wooden
boat in which I spend lots of time during the summer (last summer was GREAT
in Norway), during the winter I ski a lot (mainly cross country and
Telemark).
Working in the engineering company Kværner, just watch the Whitbread cup:
