Disk brake overhaul kits

Listers,

I have just bought overhaul kits for the disk brake calipers on my
Series 3 Alpine.

In the kits are dust boots and seals (no problem there), and a small
rubber grommet (about 1/4" ID). What is the grommet for? My guess is
that it is a seal between the two halves of the calipers (which I
haven't separated after warnings given on this list). Another
possibility is something to do with the bleed nipple.

Also, I am missing the master cylinder cap seal, and the brake parts guy
couldn't find a part number for it. Does anyone have any hints? I'm in
Australia, so shipping one seal across hemispheres isn't really on.

While I'm here, any advice/tips/warnings on doing this job or on
repacking the wheel bearings would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Paul.
