Dont worry about gettting metal shavings into that part of the head.
It goes into the heads main water passages, and little alluminum bits
arent gonna hurt anything, and will be converted into dissolved aluminum
oxide in your coolant, which is where all the corrosion in your head has
gone to.

Use thread sealer on the studs/bolts/helicoils that protrude into the
water
cavities, or face an eternally leaking alpine.
