You have to remove the chrome piece and the brass jet, as the brass jet
expands the rubber and retains it in the sheet metal.

I wouldnt be concered about removing them intact. If the rubbers are 30+
years old, you dont have a chance anyhow, plus exact replacements are
available from the usual suspects.
