Never thought I would have to pose this question to the list but how do
I stop my Series V pouring more gas out the exhaust than is being
consumed by the engine?
I have followed with interest the Smog discussions on the list as New
Zealands politicians are talking about some emission control laws
(without your exemptions for older cars)Fortunately our classic car
community is lobbeying strongly against this.
Yesterday being a nice summers day here I took the Alpine to work. I was
followed into work by one of my colleagues who commented that "your
little car went well" but "it really smelt of gas"-since she never got
closer than 500 yards behind me there must have been an awful lot of gas
in the exhaust. Certainly driving round today there is a very noticeable
gas smell when I am at idle.
I'm running Aviation gas cut with 91 Octane (Av Gas:91 at 1:4) which
although technically illegal in this country certainly gets round the
issue of lead additives and also helps with the raised CR due to
constant head planning. On 91 I had major problems with pinking. I
suspect currently I'm running far to rich. What tricks did you guys use
to cut you emissions down. What's the procedure for changing the fuel
mixture.
Finally from the country that will be the first in the world to see the
sun rise on 1998, let me wish you all a happy New Year
Karl
