Well, most everywhere else it was a Rapier, as in the very hot Holbay engined
Rapier H120. Here, however, the name police were at work again, and figured
that the Alpine name still had some selling strength. I had a 69 Alpine coupe,
dressed up as an H120. My older brother had a 70 Alpine GT, which sported a
wooden dash and full instruments, in addition to dual carbs. I was a fool to
sell my car, as it was ideally suited to a daily driver... close enough to my
Alpine to be mechanically drop-dead simple, and innocuous enough in appearance
to park at the mall. (rather like my current Cricket, but the Alpine was MUCH
more fun to drive!) And to add insult to injury, I sold it to make my one,
only, ever, entry into new car buying...... if only I'd known!!!
