I'm with you on this - I grew up thinking that "roadster" meant no side
windows.

Ponder this - "proper" Alpines built in 1953-55 are true roadsters, complete
with the wonderful convenience of sliding plexiglass side curtains that can be
removed so you can stick your arm over the side of a comfy upholstered door
top. So, what do you do with the damned things when not installed on the car?
Strap 'em down behind the seats or leave 'em home in the garage or just toss
'em in the boot to bang around.

So, the original Alpine was a roadster. When the series Alpines came out with
luxury amenities (by British standards), the roadster moniker stuck - and by
extension, also to the Tiger.
