Alpine cam grinds, etc.

Howdy Everyone:
For those of you who don't frequent the Tiger mailing list, I have been
"appointed" (coerced is closer to it!!!) Tiger Tales Editor for CAT.
I've already finished the February issue & it should be printed & ready
to mail by Wednseday or Thrusday next week. If anyone has any
interesting stories, photos, unusual literature, etc. about Alpines, for
future issues, E-mail me & I'll post my mailing address (which will be
in Tiger Tales anyway) so you can send stuff to me for future
publication. I plan on giving Alpines and other Rootes cars a bit more
coverage and a lot more welcome than has been done in the last few
years.

Here's my tech question. I am getting my 1725 engine rebuilt and now
find the camshaft needs to be re-ground. I've gone all the way in the
piston dept. and have installed the 60 over pistons. I'm running the
dual Strombergs & for the near future, due to expense, plan on staying
with them. I have the standard 4 speed, no overdrive unfortunately. Have
any of you had any experience on cam grind specifications and what works
best? Also, a good source for cams, if I need a new one? (I'm in
southern California). I'd like to increase low end acceleration as much
as possible while still having a good "top" end and reasonable idle,
which I know is everyone's ideal.

Finally, has anyone ever done a 5 speed transmission in an Alpine, as
opposed to overdrive? With the expense of overdrives what they are, it
would be great to be able to bolt in a used trans to do the job.
