Tim, and Alpiners,

If they are threaded at the ends, they are early(1,2,3).
If they are smooth, they are late (4,5)

Its my understanding that QH parts made for the late cars
had the mounting indentations turned on a lathe, instead of on a mill,
and are thus have a reduced cross sectional area at the point
of greatest stress. These could possibly be those parts.
