I had the exact same problem on my SV cowl. I painted mine with
semi-gloss black Krylon. I have found this paint to be the best in a
can. But I had trouble with the paint adhering to one of the pieces.
First I just tried sanding it with 220 sand paper. The paint still
began to lift as it dried. Finally I ended up sanding it more
thoroughly and applying a coat of primer. The results were excellent.
I can't say it doesn't look painted but it the nearly the next best
thing to new.
