Windshields and door stripping

As to windshield suppliers, it is my understanding that all windshields
available today for the Sunbeam are made by the same manufacturer in South
Africa. So, pick you best price, support your favorite supplier or drive
to the closest one to avoid shipping.

I also understand that the ones available today - or 5 years ago when I
bought mine - are just slightly narrower than original. This causes the
glass to sit a little different than stock which further causes the
stainless steel frame surrounds not to fit exactly. I had to shave a
little metal off of the top piece so that the sides would come in far
enough. Rest assured, before doing so, I had the original window back in
and the new window in countless times to make sure that it wasn't something
else. My original had the DPO scratches from using bad wiper blades, and
one of the edges was showing the tell tale cloudy separation. So I had no
choice. If your original is still clean, I'd stick with it - unless
someone confirms that older glass is more brittle and dangerous.

As to the door stripping on a Series V, both doors are the same and should
have the channel running under the bottom edge. The rubber stripping
itself runs pretty much the length of the channel and does not stick beyond
it or stay short of it. It does not curve around the back corner. That
being said, when I installed the lower piece, the door would not close
because of the thickness of the rubber - it would not compress enough
without a good slam. So, I do not have any in there now (I do have all the
other door rubber in though). Admittedly, I bought mine from VB, and have
not yet tried what is available from the other suppliers.

Later,

Jay
