casting sand and overheating

A friend of mine is rebuilding his Hillman motor and said that he pulled
about a pint of definite sand through the freeze plug behind cylinder #4.
If this is common to rootes motors, that would lead to a hot spot in the
block. This could explain why his alpine and mine both boil over on hot
days after the motor is shut off. This hot spot would superheat the
coolant leading to boiling when the coolant stops circulating. Does
anyone elses car suffer from boiling after you shut down?
