>I thought everyone knew, the oil seal is specially designed, for the
>home market, to leak at a constant rate......
>........ it stops the front half of the car rusting away 8-)
>Those of us with oil around the back of the gearbox and above the axle
>have the LAT000 optional extra rust prevention systems !
And of course those of us who have sloppy engines, loose shifter covers, and worn seals of all types, get the bonus rust treament, and likely have never even seen rust.
Seriously now, when I bought my car, the rust proofing was so oil soaked I could scape it all off with a putty knife. The DPO had installed an early tranny tail housing to an all-sync tranny. After the silicone sealer "Plug" was blown off, the tranny turned into a high pressure oil pump.
The car must have been garage kept, because when I finaly stripped the paint down to metal, not a lick of rust throughout the tattered body.
The moral to this story is...
If you want your car to last, dowse it in oil daily.
