Hello every one, Sorry for the late response to this, but I've been
away. In response to Erik Quackenbush's post, he's correct about the
certificate for A/C being very easy to get. Hay, you can even get it
over the internet! One problem does arise by your having a certificate.
The recovery of "ANY" refrigerant is "required" by all that have this
certificate. The recovery equiptment costs in the $2500 range. If you're
lucky they can be found for about $500 used. Sure, you still might try
venting it without using a machine but you would be breaking federal,
and maybe your states, laws doing so. This is not meant to steer any of
you away from this course of action. I just don't want to see any of you
guys getting into trouble. How do I know about this? you may ask. Well
I'm the owner of an air conditioning (automobile) shop in Riverside,Ca.
and have been certified since the first week that this program started.
Now, if you do choose to persue this course you can get around the
recovery machine issue by taking your car to an a/c shop and pay them to
recover the old refrigerant. Just remember that once you are certified
you can't declare your ignorance to the law as the certification is
actually to show that you are aware of this law and also know how to
operatr a recovery machine. Hope this helps, Bob Amos
