Interesting. Which gets us back to the early Toyota T-50, 5 speed trans conversion favored by some of our friends down-under. I measured one of these units once, and think the shift lever would come up exactly where the Alpine's does, and the box looked like it would fit in the tunnel without savaging any sheet metal. Also, I think the 5th gear ratio was a nice .81 overdrive. Yes, I too love the feel of the Alpine box. Unfortunately, my Laycock OD just went out (for reasons I can't explain) and I miss the "longer legs" of an overdrive coupled with reliability (now there's a concept).

Does anyone down there care to enlighten us about other mundane matters like best models for a conversion, mating the input shaft to the Alpine pilot bearing, adapting a clutch, and driveshaft conversion? What ever happened to the group on the List who was trying to aggregate demand for special bell housings or conversion kits?
