Thanks for all the feedback re replacement shocks. Used ones for a Buick Rivera as suggested, $11 each but...

Were they supposed to need modification first?

The eyelet thing (tube) that goes through the lower rubber bush was about 3 inches long - had to be cut to the required inch. Also it was .050 inch too small in diameter. Was going to drill out, but ended hammering a tapered rod through to open the tube a bit.

Also - the extended length is 3/4 inch less that original. Don't know if this is important.

Jay - did u have similar experiences. I can't help feeling that with all the shocks out there there must be an exact fit.

Having said all that - the results were very satisfying. Nice level of damping for road use.
