In their day, early Alpines matched up well against MGA's and such. They were always a bit too heavy, though. I believe the introduction of the larger 1725cc bumped them up into classes where they couldn't think of being competitive, so Don Sessler's class champion Series IV was the last serious Alpine entry.
Out here in the Pacific NW, Robert Bailey is campaigning a Series V in vintage events. I 'think' he plans to compete next weekend at Seattle's historic races at Kent.
