S II Front Shocks

I removed the front shocks on my S II, and found that they were Monroe Gas-Matic #5829. I had used the same number on my S III. The compressed length is 7" and the extended length is 11". They had plenty of room to compress and extend on the S II suspension. I ordered a new pair from an auto parts store, and he said they were for Chrysler applications in the '70s and '80s. They may be the new "Sensitrack" model, rather than the Gas Matic. They were $29 ea. (not on sale, but I needed them, and it beats $70 for Spax).

I took a chance, and tried "www.monroe.com" and wound up on Monroe's web site. There is a customer guide with applications for makes, so I checked out the Chrysler listings. The shock fits a number of their cars (listed below). There is also a "Monroe Matic Plus" gas shock #31176 that fits the same application, and is apparently an upgrade of the Gas Matic #5829. Either of these shocks should fit. The Monroe site is an education, with lots of info on shocks. I'd recommend it. If you lik the competition, also try www.gabriel.com. I couldn't find any adjustable shocks on the Gabriel web site.

Chrysler:

Cordoba '80-'83 (Ricardo Mantoban Signature Models- Spanish language version only. Gas in these shocks is rumored to come from customers of Tomane Titos Taco Parlor and Animal Hospital in Tijuana, BC, Mex.) 5th Ave. and New Yorker '83-'89 Imperial '74-'83 Le Baron '77-'81 Newport '82

I will let you know when I get the ones on order, but the old ones fit without major modifications, and have the right dia. bolts.
