Well it was Bill Lewis who wrote of his friend that had, but in short, yes the early alpine can use SV cams and oil pumps, provided that the proper drive dog is installed onto the pump shaft to mate with the cam gear.
I wouldnt go so far as to say the 1725 pump is more efficient, but it does have about 35% more volume capacity than the 1592 pump.
