Yep - I agree with Roger. I spent the weekend at a car show in Redmond
with two guys that I originally met on the Net; Chuck and Rob. Dick
Saunders was also there. 6 of the 7 Alpines on display had owners that
had Internet access. My experience is that the more formal the Club
becomes, the less people will want to conform to its rules.
Personally, the All British Field Meets are an excellent way for Alpines
owners to get together if they want to make the effort. These events are
run by some other club with far more resources... all you have to do is
pay your entrance fee and show up. What could be simpler than that?
I try to show up at 3 events; Vancouver, Redmond and Portland, but there
are other events that VITAC and the OECC put on locally on Vancouver
Island which I attend with other LBC's. VITAC is very informal.
I have been to 3 Sunbeam Northwest's and they are great events..Alpine
owners stay away in droves...why is that? I posted all the info on the
Net last week about SNW 98 in Eugene and nobody said diddly.
All the talk this last weekend was about SUNI 99. How about we start
right now and try to recruit as many Alpine owners who are on this list
to show up in Big Sky, Montana and we can have one great big beer
drinking Internet party (if my wife reads this, I'm toast). And Chuck,
you can suspend the asphalt business for a week!!
