Ick. Multiply that (unsolicited) 100k by at least a hundred list members, many of whom probably don't have the ability to handle attachments (easily), over an average 28.8k connection.

Broadcasting (many many copies of) things like that all over really wastes the power of the Internet. Better to post these things to a willing website operator, and broadcast a pointer (even at regular intervals a la a FAQ).

On how to reach wired Alpinistas that don't (know/read) the List:

Send them a Hello message with pointers to the List and a select set of other (pointer-filled) resources. Maybe it's time we had a proper FAQ (regularly posted to news.answers) (no offence, Russell:). Keep it short and simple, containing pointers to 'Net resources that are roughly complete and complementary. Publicise the List and other resources on whatever corner you have on your club newsletter.
