New arrival

Thanks to a tip from fellow list-member Jay Laifman, we purchased a Series 3 GT this past Friday. It's tired, but straight and rust-free - mostly complete (it's missing wiper arms and probably a few other things) - it even made it "over the hill" from San Jose to home (although just barely). It's going to be a car for my wife, and it's arrival means my Alpine will have to go (eventually).

Supposedly, the engine was rebuilt 10 years ago and after around 1K miles the owner removed the twin zeniths in favor of a new weber 32/36 DGV. He couldn't get it to work, which led to it sitting until Hal (the guy I purchased it from) took it as a charity case. Hal rebuilt and reinstalled the zeniths, but it runs at about half of the power it should have. Hal said the compression was 195 across the board, but it runs like the timing is way off or it has a potato in the exhaust pipe or something. He thought it was the carburation, but is that really likely?

I'm going to survey the engines condition this weekend; any advice as to what to look for would be appreciated, thanks! ............................................................ Kevin Meek (kevnmeek(at)netcom.com) Sunbeam Tiger B382002202 Santa Cruz, California Sunbeam Alpine SI B9011324
